On January 5, Georgia voters will select their two U.S. Senators in a special runoff election. That’s why we launched our Georgia con Ganas campaign to reach every Latino voters with critical election information.
Mijente PAC and GLAHR Action network are partnering to reach every Latinx voter in this important runoff that will determine the balance of power in the entire country.
If Democrats win this runoff, our communities have a chance at winning our demands at a national level.
On Election Day, we made sure Georgia went against Trump but we know our communities deserve more. That’s why we’re continuing our work in Georgia for the Senate runoff races.
In the 2020 election, Mijente and GLAHR Action Network were part of few organizations that were door-knocking in the state, with the goal of reaching Black and Latinx voters. Keeping our focus on two counties -- Cobb and Gwinnett -- we knocked on 120,000 doors, and reached out to 500,000 people by phone and text messages.
Because of those efforts, Gwinnett was one of the counties with the largest turnout of Latino voters in the state, with 75% voting for Biden. Not only did we dump Trump, we also defeated Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren and Gwinnett County Sheriff Lou Solis — who have pushed some of the most racist, anti-immigrant policies in the country and wreaked havoc on our gente.
Now, we’ve launched our Georgia con Ganas campaign -- We are knocking on every door of Latinxs in Georgia. We’re making sure voters have what they need to vote on or before January 5th and encouraging them to vote for the Democrat candidates Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock.
Now more than ever, it’s critical that our voices are heard. Latino participation in the 2020 election in Georgia more than doubled from 2016 -- and we can keep up the momentum.
Radical and lasting change starts with every-day, dedicated people paving the way. We can make sure that leaders Georgia voters elect in January speak up for the rights and safety of our communities.
