Trump won Arizona in 2016, but that same election we took out notorious Sheriff Joe Arpaio and in 2019 the city of Phoenix has its most progressive City Council yet. Our community has been organizing. With Latinos being 25% of the expected vote, we can make a difference.
Trump also only won Florida in 2016, but only by slightly over 1% and we’re hopeful that this time around young Latino voters can change that. While we know the Latino vote is not guaranteed to go against Trump, 1 out of 3 new registered voters is Latino, which gives us a great opportunity to build power in our community and swing the election.
For your safety and the safety of our community, we will have a strict safety plan in place for COVID. All participants will be required to comply with these protocols and will receive safety training prior to knocking doors. Mijente has also been safely knocking on doors in North Carolina and Georgia and our organizers will be using that experience to inform our process. That said, everyone should assess their own health risks and make decisions that are best fit for their particular situation.
It’s plain and simple: meeting our gente where they are and having authentic, face-to-face conversations is one of the most effective ways to ensure Latino voters head to the polls. Our research shows that door knocking is far more effective than cold calls and texts from strangers.
We are raising money to support travel and lodging costs for folks who are able to drive to Arizona or Florida. If you are in the position to cover your own costs, that’s great! If not, please apply for a transportation or housing scholarship and we will do our best to accommodate everyone! If you are requesting support please fill out this form as soon as possible.
